 RACE STORY + RESULTS 

 IMPORTANT NOTICE – THE 2009 SPIRIT PADDLE KING OF THE CAPE IS A REVERSE COURSE. BUNKERS BAY TO SMITHS BEACH!!

Forecast at 2.45pm 6/11/09, 11 – 14knots WNW @ 2pm….with a residue from the North in the morning.

·         Registration will now be from 12.30 at Bunkers Bay Car park…look for the Spirit flags!!

·         For those helping with the event it will stay the same

·         Registration finishes 1.30pm 1.45 briefing

·         Start 2pm

On behalf of Indian Ocean Paddlers and Spirit Paddle Sports we welcome you to join the 2009 King of the Cape from Smiths Beach to Bunkers Bay 18km. 

The event is scheduled for Saturday November 7 2009 the start time for the event will be 2pm. Registration from 12.30pm at Smiths beach.

Entries Close Friday 3pm...Late entry excepted but attracts the normal $10.00 late fee

Ocean course – Smiths Beach (south end) to Bunkers Bay (west end) the course will follow the coast the same line as previous years, not venturing more than 400m from the coast line.

All craft will obey DPI boating regulation and water safety and support craft will be in attendance, enforcing this.  All paddle craft requires them to have positive floatation and they must be attached via a leg leash and are to carry a buoyancy vest.

We have SLSWA doing our water safety they will provide 6+ of their powered water rescue craft.

Come and be part of this magnificent, beautiful and sometimes treacherous coastline.

DONT FORGET LEG LEASHES ARE COMPULSORY!! (And we recommend wearing a life jacket)

IF THE WIND IS MORE THAN 3 KNOTS IN THE HEAD THE RACE WILL BE TURNED AROUND... “IOP has adopted the 0 head wind policy for 2009/2010”
